Hermana Grovers 1st Letter

Hola! Como esta todos?!

...I don't even know if that's right haha.

This week has been crazy! There has been sooo much that has happened! I've had like super highs and some lows throughout the week. Some info first, I'll be writing every Thursday not Monday because that's my P-Day now.

The first day I got to the MTC I met my companion and then they stuck us in a classroom where the teacher didn't speak one english word. We were in there for 4 hours. It was rough.

My companion's name is Hermana Johnson. She is from Louisville, Kentucky, going to Tuxtla Gutierrez! There are a totally of only 4 Hermana's in the whole Provo MTC going to my area...Insane! Anyways, my companion is great and we quote movies together like none other! She is awesome. It's like home here being able to quote movies in my Distrito (District).

My Distrito is SO great! They are like the funniest people ever. It's actually an all-sister District which kind of made me sad because I wanted to get to know some Elders but that's ok! In my District is Hermana Johnson, Johnston, Burns, Durnford, and Zenger.

Our Zone is awesome though too! The Elders are the kindest and funniest people ever. When Hermana Johnson and I had like the worst lesson of our lives every single one of them came to us and shared a scripture or their testimony to help us out. It was pretty cool. I don't have a picture of my whole Zone but I'll take one today!

So lets get to the nitty gritty. The 2nd day we were here our teacher (Hermana Gibson) told us we would be teaching an Investigator the next day...ins Spanish. Holy flip a tird I almost cried. His name is Jose Louis Suarez. He is from Barcelona, Spain. Our first lesson ended up going better than we thought. Though for me, I had no idea what he was saying, what my companion was saying, and what I was saying. It was not very good for me. I relied on my companion like the whole time haha. Thank goodness she understands what he says because I just stare at him like a deer in the headlights whenever he speaks. So funny story in the first lesson..He asked how old we were and I was trying to say 19 in spanish but I think I was so nervous that I forgot how to say it in spanish and the first word that came to my mind was desayuno. That means breakfast. So yeah, he said how old are you and I said I am breakfast years old. I was supposed too say diecinueve. He looks at me and just busts up laughing and I tried to fix it and I kept saying all these random words and pretty soon my companion just said she's 19 haha. It was bad

We have taught him for a whole week and our first 2 lessons went well and the 3rd was a disaster! He just hounded us with questions that were hard enough to answer in english when put on the spot. Then to top off the end of the lesson I was trying to say see you later on Monday! But it didn't come out like that and he just laughs. I think he thinks I'm the dumb companion haha. Anyways I said Nos Vemos Lunes instead of Nos Vemos de Lunes. So I said see you later Monday like it was his name. The 4th lesson wasn't good either because we were so bummed from the lesson before that our attitude carried over. Lesson learned from those two for sure! I do have to say though, the bad lesson was the greatest learning experience of all time and I'm os happy it happened my 1st week here and not my 5th.

All of my lessons, Personally, haven't been going great because I don't have faith in myself and in the Lord with speaking spanish. I worry way too much about the language rather than what Jose needs to hear and what the Spirit is trying to tell me. So the very last lesson I had was the best for me personally because I just went in there didn't try to memorize lines and I definitely was blessed with the gift of tongues. He said something and I said the first thing that came to my mind and just went off in spanish and he said he understood...though I think partly he was just being nice haha. But I finally felt like I was doing something right and my work was paying off and I was relying on the Spirit more. The last funny story happened in this lesson though. We FINALLY got him to pray! He would not pray for forever and he finally said yes so we were so excited. Anyways, he says the prayer and the Spirit was there and it was great and then my companion said, "I feel the Spirit so much right now," and Jose says, "Me too, me too..." The Spirit was just getting stronger and stronger and then I said, "Es fue muy vaya (by-ya)"...in spanish b and v sound the same and the ll and y sound the same. Hermana Durnford told me beautiful in spanish was balla (bay-ya). So I said (by-ya) instead of (bay-ya) and vaya means to go away. So in this great moment I told him just go away....haha he looks at me and says "I don't understand." and I realized I said something wrong so I just said "no no no...no." I didn't no nevermind in spanish. Anyways, it was not good. So we went back to class and one of my teachers (Hermano Hardy) told me what I said and he just busted up laughing. It was bad. Haha but hey I knew I was bound to say embarrassing things.

Sorry this letter is super duper long but its the first week and a lot happened. Sorry if I don't answer questions I don't have a lot of time but if you have any just e-mial me. :)

Love you all!
Hablo vemos!
